'A Dream Come True’ For Jacob Blaney

18 May 2022

Hibs teenager Jacob Blaney said it was ‘a dream come true’ to make his Hibernian FC debut at Easter Road.

Blaney was one of five Hibernian youngsters to make their First Team debuts, alongside Murray Aiken, Oscar MacIntyre, Robbie Hamilton and Allan Delferrière.

The central defender came on for the final five minutes of Sunday’s 4-0 win over St Johnstone. Speaking to hibernianfc.co.uk after the match, the 17-year-old told us how happy he was to get on the pitch.

“Honestly, it is quite hard to put it into words how it felt. It really is a dream come true to make my debut.

“I couldn’t be any happier. It shows all the hard work that you put in on the training pitch was worth it and it was nice to reap the rewards.”

Blaney has been a regular starter for Gareth Evans’ U18 team and in recent months has been involved in First Team training sessions and has been named among the substitutes on several occasions.

“It was a special moment, I have been on the bench fives times before and not come on, so it was a great moment to get on the pitch. My friends and family were in the crowd today so it was a proud moment for them as well.

“We’ve still got a couple more games in the league for the U18s, hopefully we can get the title wrapped up in the next few games and end the season on a high.”
